A wooden or laminate floor can look fantastic, but they can also be a little colder and less comfortable to walk on than carpet. It is for this reason that many people who have hard floors invest in a rug or two to cover a section of the floor. An oriental rug will stand out, and it can be used to brighten up a room.
Unfortunately, the biggest downside of having a rug on a wooden, laminate, or other highly polished floor is that it can become a slip hazard if there is no furniture on it. An antique rug that walks across the floor needs to be kept in place, especially if there are children running about or someone is not always steady on their feet. For this, Pars Rug Gallery recommends Foxi underlay, which we can provide for you.
Foxi underlay is useful for rugs that walk, have waves, folds or rucks, or can be a trip hazard. It is common for Persian rugs to curl slightly at the edges, which can easily be tripped over, but with underlay this risk is minimised. It stops the rug from moving at all on smooth floors, and can be used on carpet too. Rugs will also be softer to walk on, and the underlay cannot be seen so it does not affect the look of your room. For Persian rugs, imitation leather strips can be sewn onto the underside to help it lay flat and preserve the edges.
For smooth floors such as wood or laminate, the Foxi face should be placed downwards on the floor and the rug placed on the white side. However on carpet the white side should be face down with the rug placed on the Foxi face. The underlay should be a few inches smaller than the rug all the way round to avoid it being seen.
Before placing your Foxi underlay, make sure that the area is clean and dry underneath, ideally you shouldn’t be moving the underlay often as each time it is moved it will attract dust and other particles, which make it less effective. This is particularly important if it is being placed on carpet. Similarly, Foxi underlay should not be vacuumed, as this will also reduce its effectiveness.
Although there are cheaper alternatives, we find that Foxi underlay is the best option. Other underlays can leech the colour from your rug and devalue it, while Foxi underlay will help your rug live longer and stay in a better condition. It can be cut to any size, so you don’t need to worry about excess.
