The manufacturing of these masterpieces rugs began early the 20th century. Carpets from Ghom ( south of Teheran) are known for their exquisite artistry with the pile of wool or silk. They are often manufactured with high knot density and have varied patterns, borrowed from different areas in Iran. It is also familiar with carpets produced entirely of silk, Silk-Ghom. Gardens, medallions or figural carpets with plant and animal motifs are common. Today, some carpets have been manufactured in another country and these carpets also carry the name Ghom because they use just Persian Qum pattern with silk pile but are recognizable in appearance.
