A Shiraz carpet is a type of Persian rug made in the villages around the city of Shiraz. The designs tend to come from settled tribal weavers, so they mimic Qashqai, Khamseh, Afshar, Abadeh and Lori designs. Since the weavers are using fixed looms, the rugs tend to be larger and often coarser than their tribal counterparts. Shiraz rugs are not known for their finely knotted technique, like both Qashqai and Abadeh. Shiraz rugs utilize the Persian (asymmetrical) knot. The design is geometric, sometimes featuring a pole medallion in the center.
This Shiraz carpets rug uses red and brown colors and a diamond-shaped lozenge as the primary motif. The border has smaller bands around a larger group with palm and pine leaf designs. Made from very high-quality wool, clipped a medium height, using a wool warp and weft.
This means they are not always completely straight. Being handmade, this is to be expected and not necessarily a fault in the rug. This rug surpasses those thoughts.
